Back to Liverpool and the Camp n Furnace venue for tonight’s gig watching The Untold Orchestra play David Bowie’s greatest hits. Having previously seen The Untold Orchestra playing Radiohead’s greatest hits back in April, we saw an advertisement for this gig and knew then it would be a no brainer. So I gathered up some of my family and bought the tickets with haste. I am so glad to be able to say that The Untold Orchestra out-played themselves yet again. They absolutely did not disappoint whatsoever. This gig was part of a night out organised within the two-week celebration of my 40th Birthday.. Yes, I get multiple days, like the Queen.
So we headed to the Baltic Market pub / restaurant / eatery in the Baltic Triangle for some pre-gig food which was yet again spot on, then we headed quite late this time to the Camp n Furnace where we were lucky enough to be able to squeeze on to the end of someone else’s table. Right at the side, the right hand side this time out. They had removed a row or two of tables, to give the dancers somewhere to get up and dance, so there was less seating anyway. But we’d just about settled in as the band took to the stage. They never held back at all right from the outset starting with Space Oddity and continuing with many a hit from Bowie’s back catalogue. I think my guests and I would agree that they covered as much of his career as they could in the amount of time they played for. Classic hits such as Rebel Rebel, Fame, Heroes, Let’s Dance and many more. Singing alongside The Untold Orchestra as guest singers were Jenna G and a guy who sang fantastically yet I cannot seem to find out his name. Standouts’ from the band itself included the horn & saxophone players, guitarists and to be honest, all of them. They really did play out of their skin and made the gig one to remember. – My guests and I were all left wondering where and when we would get to see The Untold Orchestra again.
The night continued post-gig with some more drinks in the venue which remained open after the band had finished playing – it was nice to be able to chill out and not get immediate turfed out after the performance was over. It is sometimes nice to sit and reflect on the performances you get to go and see. Following that we decided to walk back over to the Baltic Triangle to find – to our amazement – that it was closed or closing, so we hopped in a cab and headed back into town. There we found ourselves returning to the Slug n Lettuce (where we started just one week ago, but that’s a story I haven’t told yet, and not here anyway), where we sat outside having a drink and a chat till that place closed too… Thinking it was over.. nope, we headed into Rubber Soul on Matthew Street. There’s a first time for everything, and when they were about to close we had the choice of leaving and heading home, or being shoved towards the nightclub ‘heaven’.. which should apparently be called ‘anything but heaven’. – We called it a night at that stage.
But once again, the stars of the night was The Untold Orchestra. They blew the roof off the place and I cannot wait till I can get to book to see them again. I would highly recommend seeing them play anything you can. They will not disappoint.
