Everything Everything @ Jacaranda Baltic

On Monday 4th March 2024 I finally, after trying previously on three different occasions, got to see Everything Everything performing Live. The gig was an Album playthrough to promote their new album ‘Mountainhead’. When I booked the tickets to go see this event the venue it was in wasn’t even open! It’s brand new. The venue is in the basement so a flight of stairs down (and of course back up), shame it isn’t (yet) an accessible venue, although I believe there is planning permission, or at least a plan to have a lift installed, so watch this space I guess. But regardless, I arrived around 17:10 and the event was due to start at 17:30.

Now, unknown to me, I had tickets for the later showing at 19:30 – I had no idea there was an early and late show.. I really didn’t. Back when I booked, I don’t think the time was shown at all. Thankfully, the staff on the door allowed us in to this earlier event. We headed downstairs and grabbed a drink. The bar area isn’t fully set up yet, but they can serve drinks, so we got one and went and found a decent place to stand. The band came on more or less on time at 5:30pm and proceeded to start to play songs from their new album. One of my pet peeves is that there is never an accurate record of a setlist after smaller gigs, and this was.. a smaller gig. Based upon my memory, they played all but two of the tracks on the Mountainhead album, and the classic track they played was Cough Cough.

A badly shot singular image.. There wasn’t much room to get a camera out, I felt.

They really do sing well live. You know that you can’t really tell how a band sounds till they are playing live, but EE.. Really can play and sing just as they do when recorded. It was a great performance. An intimate venue and made up a decent portion of a good night. The music on Mountainhead is a little more progressive than that on Raw Data Feel. It’s Progressive Rock/Pop mostly. Many guitars and drums with more synths and keyboards than Raw Data Feel. There isn’t a song on the album I don’t like. Some are catchier than others for sure, always will be, but there are no skips for me, plenty to sing along to!

I would return the the Jacaranda Baltic to see other artists in the future, that’s for sure, and as for Everything Everything… I am seeing them again early April in London @ The Troxy.. a 3000 capacity venue – Eak!

About x40

X40 (aka [ProjectME] or “The Masterplan”) is a personal journal of the re-discovery of myself. Following a somewhat forced period of self-isolation and internal battling with the black dog, I found myself having to hibernate away from the world as a matter of self-preservation.

Now following a personal breakthrough just before new years eve in 2021, I have found a renewed energy and wish to start to find a way to re-emerge from inside and re-discover what is on offer in the outside world.
